Automated Robotic Sanding FANUC's Authorized System Integrator, Remtec Automation has designed an automated robotic sanding system for various wood chairs. This system utilizes two FANUC M-10iA/10M robots equipped with FANUC FS-15iA Force Sensors. Force sensing adapts application force, paths & positions to compensate for variances in wood conditions, humidity and position by constantly monitoring the amount of force applied to the sanding operation. A large mix of chair families, each with a high number of variants are identified and processed on the fly, using RFID-based part identification. The flexibility of this system allows seamless processing of multiple chair types while increasing consistency and quality. An automated paper changer loads fresh sanding sheets as needed, while the parts are swapped. The speed and consistency of robotic sanding has increased throughput with an average cycle time of three minutes per chair. This system also delivers enhanced safety by removing an operator from a dusty and dirty environment.
