Get it Done with Automated Tote Assembly

FANUC’s Authorized System Integrator Adaptec Solutions designed and built an automated tote assembly system using a pair of vision-guided FANUC R-2000iC/210L robots. One side of the system is suited for warehouse equipment loading and unloading, while the other side is suited for production equipment interaction. About the System The system detects and handles two sleeve sizes, assembling each collapsed sleeve to a plastic tray, forming the tote. After assembly, each tote is automatically inspected and sorted by size, and subsequently, introduced to the customer's normal internal process for assembled totes. Then, an automated "topper" system places the inverted trays to the top of the loaded totes from production, optimizing efficiency of the assembly process. Trays delivered to the tote topper system will be picked by one of the FANUC R-2000iC/210L robots and inverted at the re-grip/cleaning station to be placed on top of the tote. Benefits • Maximizes handling capability and minimizes floor space consumption • Reduced process labor by 20% over the 15-cell operation • Recovered 25% of floor space in the production environment FANUC R-2000iC/210L The R-2000iC/210L industrial robot is the successor to the R-2000iB/185L. Lifting an additional 25 kg, the robot also offers improved rigidity, enhanced wrist load moment and inertia. The R-2000iC/210L is ideally suited to automotive applications such as spot welding. Its relatively small footprint means it easily fits into crowded factory environments. Get it Done with Schneider Packaging

FANUC’s Authorized System Integrator Schneider Packaging created a coffee cup loading system using FANUC robots with consistent control over the product whether it's 12, 24, 32, or 48 count coffee cups. How the System Works The cups travel into star wheels that deliver the cups to the accumulating robots’ pick areas. The FANUC accumulating robots pick and place the cups onto the multilane conveyor, which delivers the cups to the carton loading robots’ pick areas. The accumulated cups are then released into the pick area. Then, the carton loading robots pick 12 accumulated cups at once with the specialty end-of-arm tool and place it in the awaiting carton. Benefits: - Increased throughput capacity without adding labor costs - Repeatable and precise product handling - Handles various case sizes FANUC M-1iA Delta Robot Series Discover the unique, ultra-compact FANUC M-1iA Series Robot and enter a new dimension in high-speed small parts handling. With 3, 4 or 6 axes, this series of high-speed delta robots is ideal for a variety of applications requiring a maximum payload of 1 kg and a work envelope of up to 420 mm. Through their ability to be mounted in multiple positions, FANUC M-1iAs can be installed directly into the most compact of machines. As versatile as the human hand, they make an ideal alternative to complicated and expensive hard automation. https://www.fanucamerica.com/products/robots/series/m-1ia-delta-robots

ARC Specialties Maximizes Efficiency with Automated Drilling Operations

Transocean, a leading offshore drilling contractor has rig operations located in harsh environment and ultra-deep water locations across the globe. In the offshore world, Transocean was challenged to improve their operator’s drilling performance. More importantly, they needed to create a safer environment for employees working in the dangerous red zone areas of the rig. Transocean partnered with FANUC’s Authorized System Integrator ARC Specialties to design an automated solution to handle the drilling riser, which was the most labor-intensive operation. Before automation, this hazardous job required team members to carry heavy bolts and use brute force to manipulate torque wrenches for each bolt on the riser. Today, the automated system uses two FANUC’s M-900iB/280 FoundryPro robots with enhanced rigidity for applications that require ultimate precision and can withstand harsh environments. The robots are also equipped with FANUC Soft Float software and a custom torque tool which allows them to react to variances in workpiece precision and the extremely heavy torque load. In addition, iRVision® enables the robots to “see” the position of the bolts. This is the first system of its kind and has proven a huge success! It’s improved efficiency by moving Transocean’s skilled workers out of the dangerous red zone to other areas of the rig where they can perform different tasks. Another key benefit is achieving higher levels of consistency with the robotic automation without the concern for human safety.
