Automated Expansion Cup Plug Installation Calvek Automation, specializing in part assembly and functional test systems has designed an expansion cup plug installation system for cylinder heads. Cylinder heads are automatically fed into the assembly system via conveyors. A FANUC R-1000iA/100F picks and positions a cylinder head over the sealant applicator for precision application. The robot positions each hole over the applicator for sealant, which is measured and controlled for depth, thickness and continuity. After sealant is dispensed, the robot positions the cylinder head over the servo-controlled cup plug assembly station. Cup plugs are fed into the assembly system via an automatic poka-yoke system. An electric servo driven press then installs the plugs according to specified depth and force. Quality is ensured throughout the process by monitoring and controlling all aspects of assembly.
