Bin picking casted metal parts with FANUC R-2000iC and 3D area sensors - Eckhart

Eckhart leveraged FANUC 3D bin picking technology and robotic solutions to engineer, design and build an automated bin picking system to solve an ergonomic issue involving manual labor. The slow, labor intensive task of manually picking randomly oriented 8 lbs parts from standard break down containers and placing them on conveyors created a dangerous and uncomfortable work environment. With this new automated system in place, operators have been able to focus on higher level, value-added tasks, while saving the customer $200,000 a year in labor shortage problems and delays. The parts enter the cell in unorganized bins, and are located by FANUC 3D Area Sensors, the part location and orientation are then passed onto a FANUC R-2000iC robot for precise smart picking. This system consists of a "flip station" to allow the robot to re orientate parts if they are "upside down" when picked. The robot then places one left hand and one right hand casting onto a carrier that is conveyed to the final machining station. There is a WIP (Work In Progress) station located behind the conveyor to allow the robot to have a pre-positioned parts Que as a safety net to maintain cycle time when bins are being swapped out. Eckhart delivered the cell turnkey to the customer site in just 12 weeks time. To find out more about how Eckhart can transform your industry, visit www.eckhartusa.com
