Get it Done with Vision Guided Fuel Pellet Inspection

Get it Done with Robotic Assembly and Inspection FANUC’s Authorized System Integrator BOS Innovations designed and built a vision-guided robotic assembly and inspection system for the nuclear energy industry. How it Works The system includes five FANUC robots for a variety of applications. • Trays loaded with multiple rows of fuel pellets stop between two FANUC LR Mate 200iD/7L robots to start the sort-and-stack process. System measures the length of each row, then the trays are released and proceed to the next step. • A FANUC M-710iC/45M robot picks full trays at the end of the conveyor, and once emptied, the trays are put on a second conveyor to transfer them back to the initial workstation where an operator refills the trays with more fuel pellets. • Next, a FANUC M-20iD/35 robot picks and places sheaths of the same type from a rack with vision guidance for automated selection to place them on a bench. • Finally, one FANUC M-20iD/25 robot featuring a C-shape end-of-arm-tool picks the stack of sheaths from the bench to place it on a conveyor with other sheaths.
