Güdel and Simmons Machine Tool Work Together to Automate Wheel Boring and Mounting

Using Güdel’s overhead gantry modules, Simmons is supporting the international freight and transit railways, all from its manufacturing facility in Albany, New York. The system, seen here, is a fully automated wheel boring and mounting cell designed to re-work train wheel sets that have been used in the field. The system determines if the wheel sets need to be disassembled, re-machined, and then re-mounted to axles to be used again.
