Cooperation between Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus and KUKA in the newest and most modern factory

In 2020, Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus (VWCO) began production of the extra-heavy "Meteor" truck, currently the largest truck in its product portfolio. The cab of the heavyweight is manufactured in a smart production system at the plant in Resende, Brazil. KUKA is performing the necessary welding work here. The perfect system integration from KUKA, consisting of a fully automated process with several KUKA robots and positioners, ensures robustness and stability throughout the welding process. In addition, KUKA Brazil supplied a locally developed technology for manufacturing the frame. Using robust geometry grippers, KUKA made it possible to perform all steps of the frame welding process in just one station. The “Geometry Box Station” requires only four KUKA robots and some resources for tool change for this purpose.
