Q WEARABLES 04 LIGHTJACKET

The Linz Center of Mechatronics GmbH (LCM) not only provides high-quality research & development in the field of Mechatronics but also takes part in the education of students. Within the Bachelor Program “Fashion & Technology” of the University of the Arts in Linz, our colleague Florian Hammer gives a lecture on “Wearables”, in which the students get a basic understanding of wearable technology and need to carry out a respective project. The project aim is to add a function to a piece of second hand clothing. In their project, Verena Haunschmied, Julio Escudero, Mariia Zubakova and Philip Ainedter aimed at integrating a signaling function to a jacket. They sewed red LED strips onto each of the arms and a blue LED strip horizontally onto the back of the jacket. The blue LEDs are permanently illuminated while the red LED strips are alternately blinking. Die Linz Center of Mechatronics GmbH (LCM) bietet nicht nur Forschung und Entwicklung auf hohem Niveau im Bereich der Mechatronik, sondern beteiligt sich u.a. auch an der Ausbildung der Studierenden des Bachelor-Lehrganges “Fashion & Technology” der Kunstuniversität Linz. Unser Mitarbeiter Florian Hammer führt in der Lehrveranstaltung “Wearables” die Studierenden in die Grundlagen der wearable technology ein und betreut deren Gruppenprojekte. Ziel der Gruppenprojekte ist es einem Second-hand Kleidungsstück eine Funktion zu geben. In ihrem Projekt hatten Verena Haunschmied, Julio Escudero, Mariia Zubakova and Philip Ainedter das Ziel einer Jacke durch Beleuchtung Signalwirkung zu geben. Ein blauer LED-Streifen wurde quer über die Rückseite der Jacke angenäht und zwei rote LED-Streifen an jeweils einem Ärmel. Das blaue Licht ist permanent eingeschaltet, während die beiden roten LED-Streifen abwechselnd blinken.
